What is ‘Send To’? How to add / remove shortcuts in Send To?
In Windows, when you right click on any object, you will see a context sensitive shortcut menu. When you select any file or directory in Windows Explorer and right click, you will see ‘Send To‘ option. Most of us do not use this option effectively. In this article let us see how we can use this “Send To” feature effectively in Windows.
By default, the ‘Send To’ will have a ‘Floppy drive’, ‘Mail recipient’, ‘Fax recipient’ etc. But what if you want to add another drive (for example, your thumb drive) in addition to floppy drive so that you can send any file or folder directly to your thumb drive.
Let us assume that your thumb drive is assigned letter H: and you want to add this drive H to your ‘Send To’ menu. Here are the steps to achieve this.
- Right click on ‘Start’ and select ‘Explore’.
- Now scroll down to the ‘Windows/Send To’ folder in your Windows Explorer. If you are using Windows XP then you will have to set your ‘Folder options’ to ‘Show hidden files and folders’. To enable this click on ‘Tools’ menu and select ‘Folder’. Then click on the ‘View’ tab and select the ‘Show hidden files and folders’ and click ‘OK’. Choose the ‘Documents and settings\username’ folder. Note that this username is your name.
- Now in this ‘Send To’ menu you can delete unwanted shortcuts. Here you can add any other shortcut you want to add. You can do so by dragging the shortcut icon and dropping it here. For example you want to add ‘Notepad’ application here. Then you can just create a shortcut to Notepad here or search for the ‘notepad.exe’ file and drag and drop a shortcut here. After you create this shortcut you can select any text file later and right click and select this notepad to open that file in notepad automatically.
You can also add a folder to this ‘Send To’ menu. To add a folder to the shortcut menu follow these steps.
- Right click ‘Start’ and select ‘Explore’
- Goto ‘Windows\Send to\ folder. If you are using Windows XP then follow the steps given above to goto the send to folder in XP.
- Now in your windows explorer, right click the thumb drive (eg. H:\Removable disk) and drag and drop it to the ‘Send To’ folder.
- You will see a new menu with many options. Choose the ‘Create shortcut’ option to create a shortcut to this drive. From now on you can right click on any file and directly send to your thumb drive.
Using ‘the last known good configuration’ in windows startup menu.
Windows XP stands for Windows eXPerience. Sometimes you may experience strange things while using Windows XP. An allpctips member faced this problem.
She installed a new software in her computer. After the installation windows prompted ‘You have to restart your computer’, so she clicked on the ‘Yes’ button to restart the computer. But instead of rebooting, she only saw the infamous blue screen with some STOP errors.
Just as everyone else does, she restarted again and again in the hope that Windows XP will somehow restart successfully but she kept seeing the blue screen. After much frustration and a coffee, she remembered the ‘startup menu in windows‘ and restarted again. This time she pressed F8 to enter into the startup menu.
In the startup menu, she chose the ‘Safe mode’ thinking everything will be fine now. But to her surprise she still saw the blue screen again. Luckily for her, she remembered there are other options in the startup menu.
So she pressed the F8 key again and entered into the startup menu once again. This time instead of choosing safe mode, she chose ‘using the last known good configuration’ option in the startup menu. Hoooray, The computer started like a gem without any problems.
Therefore When you see the infamous blue screen at startup, before you decide to format your hard disk, try the ‘Using the last known good configuration’ from the startup menu.
How to enable sticky keys?
Dec 13th
Posted by Jeya Eskalin in Windows
While using computers, many functions are accomplished by pressing two keys together. For example when you press Ctrl + C, you can copy the selected text. But many people find it difficult to press two keys together. That is, they will just press the second key, which means when they press the second key they will release the first key.
For these people, Windows provides a solution. Even whey you press the two keys with a gap in between, you can configure windows to consider as if you pressed them together. This feature is called ‘Sticky keys‘. To enable sticky keys in Windows follow these steps.
- Select Start->Settings->Control Panel
- Click on the ‘Accessibility Options’.
- Then select ‘Keyboard’ and then select the ‘Use Sticky Keys’ check box.
- Then click on ‘OK’.
From now on you can press Ctrl + C or any other dual keys one by one but windows will take it as pressing together.

How to stop Windows Messenger Service?
There are two messenger services available for Windows and Internet users. They are Windows Messenger Service and Instant Messaging.
Instant Messenger is used to chat, call, share files, video conference, send SMS messages between two internet users.
Windows Messenger is used to just send messages between two users in the network.
This article is about Windows Messenger Service not about Instant messaging. We will discuss how we can stop the Windows Messenger Service that can be really troublesome at times.

Yes. A total stranger can use Windows Messenger Service to send you a message. When you are seriously engaged in your work, a pop window will suddently appear in your window. You will see the message sent by the stranger. The title bar of the pop window will show ‘Messenger Service’.

What is a startup menu – A Tutorial
Among the Windows operating system menus, ‘Startup menu‘ is one of the most important menu but least used menu. Generally this menu is not visible outside. Only if there is any problem this menu becomes visible.
This startup menu has the following startup items, Normal, Safe Mode, step by step, command prompt only etc. If you choose your preferred option the windows will boot accordingly.
The ’safe mode’ option in the startup menu is very important. If the computer hangs due to any hardware problems then you can use the ’safe mode’ to login and fix the problem. The usual drivers and programs will not run when computer is started in safe mode. In safe mode you can remove adware, spyware and malware.
If you want to give commands using DOS prompt then select the ‘Command Prompt only’ option.
If you want that the commands from config.sys and autoexec.bat to execute one by one then you can select the ‘Step by Step’ option in the startup menu. With this you can exactly pin point which command is causing the problem.
In the startup menu if you do not select any options within 30 seconds then windows will use the default option. The default option is the ‘Normal’ mode.
Now let us see how to bring the startup menu during booting. There are two ways. The first option is by pressing a key while the computer is booting and the second option is by bringing the startup menu automatically without pressing any button.
To bring the startup menu by pressing a key
Turn on your computer. The booting process will now begin. After the basic testing windows will show some system information. Now press the F8 key.
In the black window when you see a small line or square at teh top left corner of the screen you should press F8 key or Conrtol key based on the operating system you are using. If you are not sure try both.
To show startup menu every time the computer boots
In the above method, the startup menu will only appear if you pressed the right key at the right moment. If you missed then the windows will start booting in normal mode without showing the startup screen. But you can make startup window show everytime the windows boots.
The steps given below may differ a bit based on your operating system.
If you are using Windows 98/ME or XP the follow the steps below to show startup screen at every time the computer boots.
- Give ‘Start->Run’ command
- In the Run window type ‘Msconfig’ and press ‘enter’ key.
- The system configuration editor window will open. Windows 98/ME users click on ‘General’ tab and click ‘Advanced’ button and then select ‘Enable startup menu’. Windows XP users click on ‘boot.ini’ tab and select the SAFEBOOT check box.
- Click on ‘OK’ button
From now on whenever you start your computer it will show the startup menu.
In Windows 2000 there is no MSCONFIG utility. Therefore Windows 2000 users must use the control F8 key to enter startup menu.
If you are a Windows 2000 user and you want to download the MSCONFIG utility then you can download the MSCONFIG utility from http://www.drd.dyndns.org/softlib/utils/msconfig2k.zip
What happens when you drag and drop a file in windows explorer
Dec 13th
Posted by Jeya Eskalin in Windows
In order to copy a file in windows we usually select the file in the Windows Explorer and then drag and drop to the new location. Have you ever wondered what happens to the file? Is it getting copied, deleted or moved?
In fact Windows Operating System hints at what is happening by displaying different icons for each case. The truth is that most of us do not really notice it. When you drag and drop next time watch the mouse cursor carefully.
If a ‘+’ sign is shown in a small white square next to the cursor arrow then the file or folder is being copied to the new location.
If instead of ‘+’ you see a small curved arrow then the file’s shortcut will be created in the new location instead of copying the file itself.
If there is no change in the mouse cursor then the file is being moved to the new location hence the file will be deleted from the original location.
There is a problem when you do drag and drop. In some cases, windows default action may not be what you really want to do. For example if you are trying to move an .exe file to another location, windows may just create a shortcut instead of moving by default. There is a solution to this problem.
Instead of using ‘left click’ while drag and drop, right click and drag and drop. If you use right mouse button to drag and drop, when you release the mouse button at the destination folder you will get a shortcut menu with the options whether you want to create shortcut, copy or move the file.
Configure Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2
For Windows XP users Microsoft released a Service Pack through its website. This includes many new features. Windows XP Firewall is one of them. There was a strong conception that there are many security holes in Windows and hackers exploited these holes to spread their viruses. But with the release of this latest service pack which also contains the Firewall, Microsoft has done a good job in making Windows more secure. Here let us see the main features and the configuration tips for making the best use of your windows firewall.
The previous versions of XP Firewall was easy to configure. Previously it was enough to just select ‘Network Connections’ and click the ‘Advanced’ tab and just select the check box for the firewall and you are done. But now, there is a separate icon in the control panel for Firewall. Open the control panel and click on the ‘Security Center’. In the new ‘Windows Security Center’ window you can ‘On/Off’ the windows firewall.
Now click on the ‘Windows Firewall’ link to open the ‘Windows Firewall’ dialog box.
In the ‘General’ tab click on the ‘On’ radio button.
The next tab is the ‘Exceptions’ tab. Here you can specify the programs that you want to allow through the internet. If you have a network and allow your internet to be shared by other computers in your network then you should use this feature wisely. Here you can list the programs that you do want to allow your other users to use. The buttons below (Add program, Add port, Edit, delete) can be used to add or delete a program in the list. A check box is given at the bottom to specify that the firewall should prompt and alert you when a program is blocked by the firewall.
The next tab is the ‘Advanced’ tab. There are three sections in this tab. The first one is the ‘network connection settings’. This is for those heavy internet users who use many networks to connect to internet. If you are a normal internet user then you don’t have to do anything to it. This is equivalent to the ‘Fine tuning’ in radios. You can use this network connection settings to allow or disallow the different network services such as FTP, SMTP etc.
If you have bought another firewall and you know that the firewall you bought is more powerful than the windows firewall then you can ‘off’ the windows firewall and use your favorite firewall instead.
If you are a broadband internet user and your computer is connected to the internet most of the time then make sure that the windows firewall or any other firewall is always turned on.
If no firewall is turned on in your computer then the Windows XP will detect this and alert you.

Thumbnails (XP)
Turn off filenames in thumbnail view
Open the folder, or switch to thumbnail view, while holding down the Shift key.
Change thumbnail size
By default, thumbnails are 96×96 pixels in size. You can change this value for the current user or all users. I wrote a small utility (Thumbnail Size Changer – 4KB) for those who do not like to mess with the registry.Current user: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
All users: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ExplorerGo to either key, select Explorer, then create a DWORD value called ThumbnailSize. Double-click it, select Decimal in the Base section, and enter a value between 32 and 256. Restart Windows Explorer.
Disable thumbnail caching (thumbs.db)
When you switch to thumbnail view, Windows creates hidden thumbs.db files (thumbnail cache) to speed up access to the thumbnails. This is nice but these files also contain the thumbnails of deleted pictures. You can delete the files, but Windows will recreate them as soon as you go back into the folders. You can, however, tell Windows not to cache thumbnails.- Control Panel > Folder Options
- On the View tab, check Do not cache thumbnailsYou will have to delete the thumbs.db files that already exist (Use the Search feature).

Enable or Disable Scandisk/Chkdsk on system reboot
If you disable the automatic execution of Scandisk (Win98, ME) or Chkdsk (Win2K, XP), you should run it manually about every two weeks to maintain the integrity of your PC’s file system.
Windows XP
Start > Run > chkntfs /x <drive> [drive] [drive]For example, if you want to disable Chkdsk from running on drive C: chkntfs /x c:
Chkntfs works by modifying the BootExcecute value in the Registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\
CONTROL\Session Manager
The default value is BootExecute:REG_MULTI_SZ:autocheck autochk *Chkdsk /f /r is unaffected by chkntfs and can be run to check volumes manually on the next system reboot.
To restore the automatic execution of Chkdsk, you can download and run this registry file (168 bytes).
Windows 98/ME
Start > Run > Msconfig > Advanced > Disable Scandisk after bad shutdownWin98: If you prefer to play with the Msdos.sys file:

Run programs at shutdown
The start command allows you to run DOS and Windows programs from a batch file. The /w switch allows the program to finish running before the next program starts running. For example, if you want to run scandisk before shutting down, you need the following batch file:
@echo off
start /w c:\windows\scandskw.exe /a /n
start c:\windows\rundll32.exe c:\windows\system\shell32.dll,shexitwindowsex 1
Create a shortcut to your batch file, then click it when you want to shutdown.
Shut down programs when shutting down windows
- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
- Create the string value AutoEndTasks , value = 1. Reboot.
Invalid directory
If a directory is left open at shutdown, and is deleted from DOS, and Windows is no longer saving Explorer folder settings, you will get a message about an invalid directory when you boot up. Simply re-enable the save option and reboot (TweakUI’s Explorer tab).
You can also get this message if a reference to a non-existent folder exists in the startup folder, or is referenced in the registry. Check startup with msconfig . If that reveals nothing, search the registry for the folder name and delete the entries.
Change windows logo (9x)
Win9x logo files must be 320×400 – 256 colors. When viewed during startup, Windows stretches them to 640×400, so keep that in mind if you’re designing your own logos, else it will throw the aspect ratio off. The default image is in io.sys.
The startup logo file (logo.sys) goes in the root directory. If your drive is compressed, logo.sys needs to be placed on the host drive.
The shutdown logo files go in the windows directory:
- The Please Wait logo is in logow.sys
- The Shutdown logo is in logos.sys

“TaskbarGroupSize”=dword:00000003“00000003″ is the default value. Change it to what you want.
Restore the show desktop shortcut in the taskbar’s quick launch toolbar
Go to C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\
Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
In this folder, create a text file named ShowDesktop.scf with the following content:
[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
Grayed out toolbar
If everything is grayed out when you right click the taskbar and point to toolbars, you need to enable Internet Explorer on Tweak UI’s IE4 tab. You may also need to enable the active desktop and allow changes to the active desktop, also on the IE4 tab.
Put the modem status in the system tray
Windows XP
Network Connections > {Right-click your connection} > Properties > General > Show icon in notification area when connected
Windows 98
Dial-Up Networking > {Right click your connection} > Properties > General > Configure > Options > Display modem status.

Delete undeletable files (XP)
Undeletable files are data files (e.g., avi, doc, etc.) that Windows Explorer will not let you delete even if you close all your programs and/or reboot.
First Method: Unlocker
- Download and install Unlocker (Free – 189KB).
Second Method: Process Explorer
- Download (Free – 77KB – Scroll down to the bottom of the page) and start Process Explorer.
- Close Windows Explorer.
- Select Explorer.EXE in the top pane.
- Look for the undeletable file in the bottom pane.
- Right-click the file, and select Close Handle.
- Close the program, and delete the file in Windows Explorer.
The seach feature does not work with file names, but it does with folder names.
Third Method: CMD
- Close all open programs.
- Open a command line window: Start > Run > CMD.
- Kill Explorer.exe: Ctl-Alt-Del > Processes, select Explorer.EXE, then click End Process.
- Delete the file in CMD.
- Restart Explorer.exe: Ctl-Alt-Del > File > New Task, then type Explorer.exe, and click OK.
Stop folders opening in their own windows (XP)
If selecting Open each folder in the same window in Folder Options does not solve the problem, start Regedit, locate the following key, and set Default to none (Type the word none).
| Key: | HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell |
| Name: | Default |
| Type: | RG_SZ |
| Value: | none |
Enable and disable Windows support for ZIP files (XP)
Click Start, then Run
and type:
- Enable: regsvr32 zipfldr.dll
- Disable: regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll
You may have to reboot.
Change the name or location of system folders
- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
- Edit folder names.
Create a folder shortcut (XP)
A folder shortcut is not a shortcut to a folder. Like the Control Panel, a folder shortcut is always visible at the bottom of Windows Explorer’s left pane, and it can be used as a regular folder.
| - | Go to c:\Documents and Settings\{username}\NetHood |
| - | While holding down the mouse right botton, drag a folder and drop it into the NetHood folder. A contextual menu will appear: Select Create Shortcuts Here. |
| - | Drag the shortcut to the Desktop. |
Command switches for Windows Explorer
Explorer [/n] [/e] [,/root,<object>] [[,/select],]
/n: Opens a new window in single-paned ( My Computer ) view for each item selected, even if the new window duplicates a window that is already open.
/e: Uses Windows Explorer View. Similar to File Manager in Windows 3x. The default view is Open View.
/root, <object>: Specifies the root level of the specified view. The default is to use the normal namespace root (the desktop). Whatever is specified is the root for the display.
/select, : Specifies the folder to receive the initial focus. If “/select” is used, the parent folder is opened and the specified object is selected.
Example: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,e:

New command missing in Windows Explorer
After you install Internet Explorer with the Windows Desktop Update component, the New command may be missing when
- you click the File menu in Windows Explorer
- you right-click the desktop
Go to [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\New],
and change the default value to {D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719}
Remove entries from the context sensitive menu
- Windows Explorer > Tools (View in win98) > Folder Options > File types.
- In the list, double click on Folder, then Advanced (No Advanced in win98)
- Select an entry from the Actions list, and press Remove.
Enable and disable Windows Picture and Fax Viewer (XP)
You can register or unregister shimgvw.dll to enable or disable WPFV:
- Enable: Start > Run > regsvr32 shimgvw.dll- Disable: Start > Run > regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
Or you can download these two registry files and double-click them:
Note: If you unregister shimgvw.dll, Windows Explorer will not display thumbnails anymore. So the registry tweak is a much better way to disable WPFV. If PhotoEd is installed, it will open picture files after WPFV is disabled.
Open unknown files with Notepad
Add Notepad to the contextual menu (right-button menu):
Create [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Open with Notepad\command], click on command, then double-click on “(Default)” in the right pane and edit the string to read notepad.exe %1
Open unknown files in Notepad when clicking on them:
- Create [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\open\command], click on command, then double-click on “(Default)” in the right pane and edit the string to read notepad.exe %1
- If Notepad still does not open unknown files when you click on them, delete the key openas (export it first)
Note: In Windows Explorer, Open With > Choose Program… will not work anymore.
Uncheck “Always use this program to open these files “
- [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\openas\command]:
Default is c:\windows\rundll32.exe Shell32.dll,OpenAs_Rundll %1
- Change it to c:\windows\rundll32.exe Shell32.dll,OpenAs_Rundll %1 %2
- Close regedit, and hit F5.
Restore the ability to preview pictures in Windows Explorer (98)
Download Preview.reg (5KB), then double-click it to merge it into your registry.
Warning: Do not use with Windows XP.
Restore .exe association
Symptoms:
- Computer will not run any program
- A message saying that a program needed to run the program pops up
Resolution:
- Rename regedit.exe as regedit.com
- Copy & paste the following into Notepad, save it as FixExe.reg, and double-click it to merge it into the registry:REGEDIT4[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
@=”\”%1\” %*”[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\exefile\shell\open\command]
@=”\”%1\” %*”- Rename regedit.com as regedit.exe
Save and restore associations (98)
- Export [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT]
- Install your new program.
- If there are file association problems, all you have to do is import back the .reg file you created.
Open rather than run a batch file when clicking it
- Go to [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\batfile\shell\open\command]
- Change the default value to notepad.exe %1
Change folders’ icons
Windows XP
- Right click the folder, click Properties
- Customize > Change icon
Windows 98
To change the icon for a single folder:Create a desktop.ini file — in the folder — that contains:
[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile={name and path of the file that contains the icon}
IconIndex=xx (xx = Zero-based icon # in file)
InfoTip={An optional description for the folder that displays in webview}To change all folder icons:
Explorer > View > Folder Options > File Types > File Folder > Edit > Change Icon
Disable the Windows folder’s warning message

This setting allows Windows clients to logon without entering a user name or password, therefore bypassing the logon box.
- Create the string value Default Password , under Winlogon (see key below).
- Modify the Default Password ‘s data to match the default users password.
The default username is stored at:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Logon] – Username
- Reboot and the system should automatically logon.

Add AutoScan=0 to the [Options] section.
WinME: If you prefer to play with the Registry:
Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem]
Value Name: DisableScandiskOnBoot
Data Type: REG_BINARY
Value Data: 01
Warm boot (9x)
Go to the Start menu and click on shut down. Then make sure that in the selection box the Restart option is selected, then hold down the shift key and press Restart
.
Restart the computer from a shortcut
c:\windows\rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindowsexec
c:\windows\rundll.exe shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 2
Shutdown Problems
Windows XP
- Control Panel > Power Options > APM
- Check Enable Advanced Power Management support
Windows 9x
- Msconfig> Advanced > Disable Fast Shutdown.- The exit windows .wav file can also cause this.
- Windows 98 SE: Article and Patch (Microsoft site)
If your computer still won’t shut down properly, check this page
.
Run programs at shutdown
The start command allows you to run DOS and Windows programs from a batch file. The /w switch allows the program to finish running before the next program starts running. For example, if you want to run scandisk before shutting down, you need the following batch file:
@echo off
start /w c:\windows\scandskw.exe /a /n
start c:\windows\rundll32.exe c:\windows\system\shell32.dll,shexitwindowsex 1
| Windows: Media Player |
Play DVDs with Windows Media Player
To play DVD’s with Windows Media Player, you need to have a DVD Player (For example, PowerDVD) or a MPEG2 codec installed.
- [KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Settings]
- Create the string value EnableDVDUI , value = yes . Reboot.
Delete Windows Media Player 8 history and playlists
History
In C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application Data, you will find a file with a name such as DCBC2A71-70D8-4DAN-EHR8-E0D61DEA3FDF.ini. Delete it.
Playlists
In C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Index, you will find a file with a DB extension. Delete it.
As far as I can tell, WMP8 does not store filenames in the registry. If you know otherwise, please let me know.

Enable or disable Task Scheduler at startup (XP)
- Start > Run > services.msc > OK.
- Double-click Task Scheduler and select the Startup type
you want.

Remove FindFast (98)
FindFast is a prog that indexes MS Office documents to make them easier to find and open. But FindFast destroys the efficiency of the rest of the system. If you just take FindFast out of the Startup group, Office applications will continue to use the indices that were created. To correctly disable Find Fast , you must delete the FindFast index files.
1. Start > Settings > Control Panel > FindFast
2. In the Index for documents in and below list, click the first item.
3. On the Index menu, click Delete Index . In the Delete Index dialog box, click OK .
5. When you are prompted whether to delete the index, Click OK .
6. Repeat above until no more indices are listed.
7. On the Index menu, click Close and Stop . Then, click OK .
8. Do either of the following:
- Remove the Find Fast shortcut from the Startup folder, and uncheck ffast.exe in
start> run> msconfig> startup.
- Run the Microsoft Office 97 Setup program in maintenance mode, and remove Find Fast.
Turn off window animation (maximize-minimize) to speed up your work
- Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\desktop\WindowMetrics
- Create the string value MinAnimate. Set it to 0 (off) or 1 (on)
Set Highlight and shadow of 3D-objects
- By default, they are set in dependence of the button face.

(To go back to the default setting, do not use -u)
- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion]:
Delete the string value HWID
- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion]:
Delete the string value MSID

There are a lot of people who do not pay any attention to RAM when they buy their laptops. They may be ignorant or perhaps plain negligent on this. But when the laptop works slowly or perhaps conks off in the middle of important tasks, they wonder as to what happened suddenly.

It is advantageous, then, to have a repair service manual for your car, whether it is a Bugatti Veyron or a Hillman Imp. Knowing what has gone wrong with the car, and whether you can run the repairs yourself, is helpful for so many reasons. A good service repair manual will make it easier to drive with confidence, knowing that you have all the information you need to make the repair job less stressful, and possibly less expensive.
